Like you, my journey has been complicated and sometimes messy. After graduating from college with a degree in English literature, I packed up my belongings and took a train to Seattle, determined to “find myself.” I waited tables and tended bar. I wrote for tiny newspapers and sold skin care products. I worked in halfway houses and nursing homes and car dealerships. I met a ton of people, tried every new experience that came my way and worked hard at figuring out the point of my life.
By age 40 I was beginning to crack the code. Newly married (again), I had a little house in the suburbs, learning to stepparent, and working on adult things like setting up a 401k. I was starting to breathe and think about the next 40 years. Then I almost died of cancer.
Battling for my life gave me a new perspective – which was great, but after the last radiation treatment, I was left with a lot more questions. I needed a paycheck, but now making a paycheck wasn’t enough. I wanted the work I did in the world to reflect the wisdom I’d gained on my journey. At 43 I went back to school and got my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy. After two decades of searching, I found my place in the world. Being a therapist is the most satisfying work I can imagine. I love helping others find their own answers to life’s big questions.
The world is full of people who want to tell us what we are doing wrong or how we should live our lives. A million TikToks and YouTube videos claim to have the answers. The truth is we are all unique and as Cat Stevens said, "There's a million ways to be."
My goal is to help you through the rough spots – relationship conflict, anxiety, depression, grief, ptsd – while coaching and encouraging you to build the life that is uniquely yours. A life that matters to you.
